HPS 57th Annual Meeting, Sacramento, CA

“Now that the preparations for the HPS 57th Annual Meeting, Sacramento, CA  (7/22-26/12) and the AAPM 54th Annual Meeting, Charlotte, NC (7/29/12 to 8/2/12) have largely been completed or are nearing completion, it is not too early to begin planning for the 2013 HPS Mid-Year Topical Meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona (1/27-30/13). This meeting is jointly sponsored by the HPS Medical HP and Accelerator Sections and is expected to be of special interest for AAPM members. Here is our call for key persons to serve as session co-chairs:

This is a call for Co-chairs for the 2013 HPS Mid-Year Topical Meeting on ‘Medical Health Physics and Accelerator Dosimetry’ that will be held in Scottsdale, Arizona from January 27-30, 2013. Co-chairs should be individuals who will be able to attend the meeting and have special expertise (particularly regarding staff and/or patient radiation dose matters) to guide their topical sessions. In particular, co-chairs are needed for the following sessions:

o       Issues in PET/Cyclotron and cGMP
o       Issues in Brachytherapy and Radionuclide Therapy
o       Issues in Regards the Role of the RSO
o       Issues in Proton, Heavy Ion and Electron Accelerator Therapy
o       Issues in Diagnostic Studies (CT/Cardio/IR/Mammo/etc.)
o       Issues in Written Directives, Medical Events, and Patient Dose
o       Issues in Radiation Transport Codes and Shielding
o       Issues in Medical Isotope Production and Machine-based Misadministrations
o       Issues in Accelerator/Medical Dosimetry (other/emergent topics)

If you are interested in exploring serving as a co-chair for one of these topical areas, please contact Mike Sandvig, HPS Accelerator Section President Elect michael.sandvig@inl.gov or Steve King, HPS Medical HP Section President Elect sking@hmc.psu.edu.  Your early response in this important effort for the Society is encouraged.

For this meeting, we are especially looking for participation by AAPM members, particularly with reference to the many patient dose issues.

Members of the AAPM who will be able to attend may contact HPS Accelerator Section Past President and AAPM member Mike Grissom mpg1@coastside.net as to their interest in presenting papers or co-chairing sessions for the topics above.
